Trip to Luxor, Egypt

We, who has been charmed by the mystery of antient Egyptian, Luxor is a place to visit to experience more of this left behind of
the Great Egytian. The 11th dynasty, Pharoah Montuhotep II Thebes Prince, re-unified Upper and Lower Egypt and moved the capital to city called Thebes. It increased the nearby city call Karnak's to be an importance as a cult center to Theban God Amun. The God Amun remained the religious capital, although the capital city was moved back to the north at al-Lish t( situated about 30km south of Memphis).



The Nile Valley, Luxor city is called the world's greatest open-air museum. The city is located on the East Bank of the Nile River and right across the Nile, lie the tombs on the West Bank Necropolis, temples, monuments and include the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Luxor and Karnak are outskirts of Thebes the capital city in Ancient Egypt. Thebes was Egyptian civilization at its height (2040-1075 BC) This period of centuries was one of the richest times of Egyptian history, which Thebes witnessed a great flourishing of architecture and arts, and great advances in science.


What to see in the town of Luxor

The increasing numbers of tourists in Luxor has made the city center filled up with hotels, bars and restaurants, is easily walkable when the day temperature is not too high.




Temple of Karnak

Temples - Where Heaven and Earth Meet. Temple of Karnak is more than just a temple, it is an extraordinary complex of sanctuaries, kiosks, pylons and obelisks dedicated to the ancient Egyptian Theban gods Amun and the greater glory of Pharaohs. Everything is on a gigantic scale; the site covers over 2 sq km, contain about 10 cathedrals, the Temple of Amun is the largest religious building ever built. Karnak was the most important place of worship in Egypt during the New Kingdom, was called Ipet-Sut means the Most Esteemed of Places. Karnak is Arabic name means 'fortified settlement'. During the New Kingdom period 81,000 people working for the priests of the temple. The most important place of worship was the Amun Temple Enclosure.




Luxor Temple

Temples Where Heaven and Earth Meet, temples were houses for the gods, if they settled in them, order, happiness and prosperity reigned in the land. For this reason each pharaoh built temples or enlarged those of his predecessors and placed his own likeness as a guarding statue in front of the door.

Luxor Temple had been built by Pharaohs Amenhotep II 1380-1352 BC and Ramses II 1279-1213 BC. The temple was dedicated to God 'Amun', mother Goddess 'Mut' and God 'Khonsu' (Son of Amun and Mut).The beautiful Festival of the Opet, a cult statue of Amun was paraded down the Nile, the festival lasted two to four weeks during the summmer, the second month of the Nile flood. It is one of the highlights of this days long festival, the survival of the ancient Opet festival.






Luxor Museum

This wonderful museum contains a beautifully displayed collectin of Egyptian Antiquities from the end of the old Kingdom to the Mamluk period. One of the well known piece of sculpture the statue of the Napoleon of Ancient Egypt. On The ground-floor you will find number masterieces such as a well preserved limestone Relief of Tuthmosis III, an exquisitely carved Statue of Tuthmosis III protected by the Crocodile God Sobek, Relief of Unas-ankh found in his tomb on the West Bank, one of the few pieces of Old Kingdom Art.

In 2004 a new wing was opened, dedicated to the glory of Thebes during the New Kingdom period. The Royal mummies, Ahmose I and the mummy of Ramses I are the highlight, with the well-labelled displays illustrate the military of Thebes during the new kingdom, chariots and weapons.

Valley of the King


The Valley of the King where tombs were constructed for the kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom. The valley stands on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes (modern Luxor), within the heart of the Theban Necropolis.
